Food can be as addictive as drugs or alcohol. When a food addict becomes dependent on the pleasure or feeling of satisfaction that food delivers, a cycle of unhealthy consumption is perpetuated. Am I addicted to food?
Compulsive over-eaters or food addicts frequently engage in episodes of uncontrolled or binge-eating. If you find that you regularly consume food past the point of being comfortably full or until you feel ill, eating when you are not hungry or eating in secret, you may a problem with food addiction. If these episodes of gorging are followed by feelings of guilt or depression and obsession, you are in need of help. Avoiding social interactions and struggling to function at work are signs of addiction.
Decreased energy/chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sleep disorders, irritability, headaches, digestive disorders and even suicidal thoughts all go hand-in-hand with food addiction. Often compulsive over-eaters are obese or overweight. If all of this sounds familiar we advise you to seek help.

Stories of Recovery
The encouragement, love and support from the team at Crossroads allowed me to eventually see that I was worth something - that my life could be turned around and that I could accomplish the things that had long been a forgotten dream.
On the last day of my stint at Crossroads, I could only express gratitude towards all who work there. A wise councillor once commented n my question when one is ready for rehab by explaining that when one is ready for rehab, rehab is ready for you.
I was lost and my soul was broken until I ended up at Crossroads and was introduced to the Twelve Steps. With the help of their excellent staff and amazing support I have recently been clean for 18 months, I could not have done it without them!
