Are There Drug Rehabilitation Centres in Gauteng?

04 June, 2020Articles, News

Like many other parts of the world, South Africa is faced with a growing drug addiction problem. Year on year, the statistics continue to show that drug addiction effects not only the lives of those who are addicted, but their families, friends and associates. It is not uncommon to hear that the majority of South Africans will either be directly or indirectly affected by the disease of addiction in their lifetimes. Fortunately, advancements in technology and the ubiquitous nature of social media means that more and more people can be made aware of the fact that rehabilitation from addiction is both possible and effective.

In Gauteng specifically, one of the most well-equipped and efficiently staffed drug rehabilitation centres is Crossroads Recovery Centre. This rehab facility is situated in the green belt of Boskruin in the north of Johannesburg. Its close proximity to the idyllic Boschkop Nature Reserve makes it the ideal place to take a break from the stressors and pressures of life to focus on recovering on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

The double storey villa that is located on the property can accommodate up to 17 patients comfortably, with access to recreational spaces. The rehabilitation centre itself is equipped with ample individual and group therapy rooms as well as spaces for workshops and other therapeutic activities. The main lounge features a cosy fireplace and there is a large table tennis area on the patio, where clients can relax, socialise and recover in a space that is safe, secure and conducive to wellbeing.

At Crossroads Recovery Centres, the therapeutic staff recommends a minimum stay of 28 days. During this time, clients will be expected to finish the first 3 steps of the their relevant 12-step programme. The 12 steps are widely applicable to a range of addictions including drugs, alcohol, sex, love and gambling. Clients will also complete their life story and share it with the group – a task that may seem daunting but is imperative in dealing with issues of the past in order to move forwards towards a fully-functional future. Ideally, clients in the rehabilitation programme will stay at the facility longer and build a solid foundation upon which they can find a new way to live in the world, clean and sober.
